The other Lunar Society meeting place was sometimes the home of Erasmus Darwin (1731-1802) in Lichfield, 15 km further north from Walsall. Although his grandson Charles Darwin (1809-1882) is famously associated with "On the Origin of the Species," the idea of evolution had been generally accepted by the scientific community previously, and Erasmus Darwin had anticipated the views of his grandson views in his own writings.
